Helping Non-Profits to Help Humanity

The Sophia Peace Center supports non-profits by providing them with free or low-cost retreats in a beautiful retreat center in Dolores, Colorado. This service in turn promotes social change by empowering organizations to become more effective and successful in their mission. SPC retreats provide instruction for strategic planning, project facilitation, and team building. They are also designed to encourage and re-inspire nonprofit workers who are typically overworked and underpaid, thereby preventing burnout and contributing to effective work habits and better outcomes for their worthy missions.

Why is non-profit support so important?

• There are currently over 25 major world conflicts and wars going on at any one time, and over 700 natural disasters happening every year: Who will give medical help to the victims? Care for the orphans? Mediate for peaceful solutions?

• On any given night, there are approximately 1 million people sleeping in a shelter in the US without a home to go to: Who will provide food and shelter to those who need it most?

• Domestic violence reports have doubled in the last 8 years: Who will shelter the battered, reform the batterers, safe-guard the children?

• The number of people in prison in the United States alone is over 2 million: Who will offer prison services for rehabilitation? Run half-way houses for the ex-prisoners? Offer job training to those who want to re-enter lawful life?

• As water quickly is becoming the resource we realize we cannot live without, and where it is lacking we already have wars and turbulence over having access to it: Who will ensure that our water sources are kept clean and available? Who will convince us to be better stewards of our precious sources of water?
