The Next Step: Addressing Our Anger

Have you been listening to your anger, as I suggested in my last posting? If so, you may have discovered surprising things. You may have found that who you are actually mad at is not the person or people to whom you are currently venting. You may have discovered you are primarily mad at yourself. You may have found that your anger has been with you for as long as you can remember.

To whom did you not express that anger, way back when? You see, if you don’t, or you think you can’t, express it where it actually belongs, you will continue to spill it onto those who actually don’t deserve it. There is no way around this truth. You will need to get clearly in touch with the original source(s) and object(s) of your anger, and then, look at them closely. That awareness alone will be a start.

However, mere awareness is not enough. Most importantly, you will need to actually and finally address the anger, in some way, with those with whom you are angry. Otherwise, you will continue to repress the anger, or to act it out in various ways. Both options, may I remind you, contribute to the generalized collective anger that prevents peace on earth from becoming a reality. Do you care enough about peace to do your own inner work toward creating it?
